One of the wonderful things about your pashmina accessory, cashmere baby blanket or throw is that it can last for years and years – if you take proper care of it. It will even get softer and more luxurious with each wash!
In general, dry cleaning is the preferred method of washing for pashmina and cashmere care. However, you can hand wash occassionally if you are careful and follow a few guidelines that are listed below. We do suggest washing it before first use to make sure the natural vegetable dyes do not bleed.
To wash by hand, first use very cold water. You may add a little soft detergent such as baby shampoo or Woolite if you wish but please be certain the detergent is completely dissolved first. Then wash very gently by hand while being very careful with the hand-tied tassels if you are washing a pashmina accessory.
After washing, please do not wring dry. Simply lay it flat to dry. Once dry, you may warm iron but it is best to put a piece of paper or cloth between the iron and the fabric.
That’s it. Proper pashmina and cashmere care is actually easy. Now it is time to enjoy!

Pashmina is the traditional name for the very finest grade of cashmere wool. Because of its unique softness and comforting warmth, pashmina is also known as the diamond fabric and the soft gold of high Asia. Put simply, it is the finest, softest and warmest wool available anywhere. With proper care, the diamond fabric will last a lifetime or more.
This amazing cashmere comes exclusively from the underbelly of the Capra Hircus goat, in the most remote regions of the Himalayas. Because they live approximately 14,000 feet above sea level, these special goats grow a thin, inner coat of hair that insulates them during the long, harsh Himalayan winters. It is this unique inner coat of hair that is used to produce pashmina. Each hair is about 1/6th the diameter of most other types of hair – but is still surprisingly durable while being stunningly soft and comforting to human skin. With so many colors & styles of jewelry out there, this question of what jewelry to wear can be overwhelming. So, I started doing some research. Does it really matter what jewelry you should wear and when? Yes & no. The more important thing is that you consider how you look (as well as appropriateness) for the occasion.
For instance, you don’t want to outshine the person of honor at a special occasion. So dial back the bling at weddings, funerals, graduations, honorary dinners & awards banquets. At other occasions it won’t matter as much. It’s ok to be a showstopper, but don’t make others feel inadequate or look like you’re trying too hard. Yeah, it’s a delicate balance.
So, let’s focus on how to choose what you wear:
1. Choosing a necklace. Your necklace can make you look taller or shorter, larger or more delicate. Longer necklaces give a taller appearance, while those that rest on the collarbone minimize the height. Large-boned and full figured people may want to opt for a necklace with a bit of volume, while petite people may want to wear something more delicate.
2. Choosing earrings. Your earrings can complement or take away from your appearance. Long dangling earrings will enhance round faces, shorter earrings will complement rectangular or oblong faces, and rounded earrings will enhance square faces, while triangular earrings will add to heart-shaped faces. Oval faces typically look good in any style.
3. Choosing rings. Your rings can make your fingers look longer or shorter. Wider bands with round settings are best for long fingers, while dainty rings with oval stones are great for shorter fingers.
4. Choosing a bracelet. From dainty gem bracelets to large bangle bracelets, these accessories can also complement your look. Delicate bracelets are best for petite women; wide bracelets are great for average-sized women, while full figured women may look best wearing a few bracelets at once.
5. How to choose jewelry that will match a particular occasion? An adornment that’s ideal for a fancy night on the town may be completely unsuitable for the boardroom. Depending on the occasion, your jewelry piece can either take the stage or subtly add to your looks.
6. How to choose jewelry that will fit your budget? Make sure to determine how much money you wish to spend and stay within your budget. Silver and gold cost more, but they are always in style and they will last for ages. Costume and plated jewelry is much more affordable than precious metals, but its lifespan is shorter: it will wear off and fade with time. Remember, jewelry stores in prime locations may hike their prices by as much as twenty-five percent.
7. How to choose jewelry made of the right material? Decide whether you want something that you can wear until you grow tired of it (imitation or costume jewelry), or something that will stand the test of time (solid precious metal jewelry). Silver and gold will allow you to dress up or down and wear them for any occasion, while costume jewelry will enable you to change with the current style.
8. How to choose jewelry that will look good on you? Try various styles on in front of a mirror to see which piece suits you best. Ensure that this piece will complement your complexion and match your outfit. Bring a friend along and ask them for their opinion. When purchasing a necklace, ring or a bracelet online, make sure to measure your neck or wrist first (or go with a stretch style).

inIs your wardrobe in a rut? Are you wearing the same color, same style, same pieces? If you want to shake it up and get some new life in your closet, take some cues from the world all around you. Have you ever noticed that in nature, you see many contrasts? Like soft, white clouds against a brilliant blue sky or a strong, textured tree trunk against the red, green, yellow & orange leaves? You can look at the smooth grey rocks beside a babbling brook with its beautiful teal waters. Those colors can be reflected in your wardrobe and/or jewelry.

Only purchase clothing that is flattering. Think of outfits or garments that you always get compliments on. Did they compliment you on the color? Was it the cut or style? Shop according to those compliments. This doesn’t mean you are people pleasing, but it is a clear indication of what showcases you.
Avoid impulse shopping. You often spend unnecessarily on items you don’t need & usually regret later.
Need to save a buck? Shopping at a high end store off season can save a lot. Add in a coupon or special promotion & you’ll get all of the quality at a fraction of the price!
Swapping with friends is a great way to find out what looks good on you without spending a dime.
Finally, avoid shopping if you are bloated, swollen or in any pain. You will misjudge your size & can make snap judgments.
If you need advice on an outfit or accessories, feel free to post or email me at buy@thejewelrylady.co! Let me know if I have permission to share your photo on our blog, site or FB page.
Thanks & happy shopping!

inAvoid alcohols and acids like ammonia and vinegar. Read the label of the solution to make sure it can be used with the metal being cleaned.
Avoid using soap and water when cleaning costume jewelery. Soaps tend to leave a mark on the surfaces of metal or cause the stones to look dull.
While vinegar is lethal to precious gemstones, Windex is also detrimental to delicate finishes of jewelry. Recommended cleaners you can use are chemical, toothpaste, natural, and cloth. Of these toothpaste has been famed to be the low-priced yet effective solution.
Use the solution to clean smudges from gemstones and glass. Dab a small amount onto a cotton swab, and gently buff the dirty spot. Never soak jewelry in the solution, because moisture breaks down glue, welding and other adhesives bonding the jewelry together.
Use a baby toothbrush to gently brush off the costume jewelry to prevent scratching. You can also pick residue out of encrusted areas with a toothpick. Dry quickly to avoid rusting. Dab the jewelry with a towel or blow dry on a cool air setting.

One key fashion rule of thumb is to look effortless, natural & elegant. An outfit may be stunning, but everyone will know that you are in pain or uncomfortable wearing it within 30 seconds of seeing you. Fashion need not be torture! When you’re out shopping or at home choosing an outfit, be sure it’s comfortable from head to toe. So put back those jeans that give a muffin top, ditch the blouse that is so cute but itches you to death, hurl those insanely high heels out & donate the skirt keeps riding up for some unknown reason. It’s not worth the hassle! Wear what makes you look good AND feel good!
A great way to be sure only flattering pieces remain in your wardrobe is to have a trash can or donation pile area in your closet. Designate that area to items that don’t fit, are damaged or are not flattering. Clean that area out at least once a week to avoid the temptation of restocking. Once you get into the habit, you’ll find yourself only searching for “investment pieces” and skipping over items that do you no justice.
Finally, consider your health. Your fashion choices today can mean never having to deal with bruising, varicose veins & fallen arches tomorrow. So take care of yourselves, ladies. Stay healthy, happy and fabulous!

Nothing is more upsetting than your favorite fashion piece looking dull, dirty or just not as glamorous. Before you toss it, try cleaning it! Consider that your jewelry suffers through a barrage of hair & face products, sweat, dirt & oils on a daily basis. This can take its toll on any jewelry-even gold & silver jewelry. So to take the wear and tear off, try these methods:
Use a lint free and non-abrasive cloth to wipe down your fashion & costume jewelry at night after the jewelry has been removed. This will help to prevent a buildup of body oil and perspiration. These cloths are not treated with any type of polish or chemical that could potentially damage your jewelry. Try an ultra-soft microfiber cloth that will remove perspiration and restore shine to the surface of your fashion jewelry.
You probably will not need to use a liquid cleaner more than once a month unless you are active in stage performance. Heavy makeup required for theatre can transfer to the surface of your jewelry causing a dull exterior; in cases like this, cleaning several times a month with Fashion Jewelry Cleaner may be beneficial.

Pair an open-collar blouse with a thicker, chunkier piece of costume jewelry. Faux silver or gold interlock chains that lie flat on the collarbone accent a dressy casual outfit or business suit. Coordinate your earrings and belt with the tones in your necklace.
Enhance a jewel-neck or turtleneck sweater with a long string of colorful beads. Precious stones work well with a thicker day look, while crystals bring a little glamour to an evening ensemble.
Pair a square-neck top with a pendant that dangles from a long chain. Consider lengths that fall between the collarbones.

Consider the occasion. Opt for a simple, understated piece for daytime and a more precious or extravagant piece for evening.
Accent a V-neck with a drop pearl necklace or solitaire pendant. This same piece also complements boat-neck and crewneck tops. Match gemstone colors to those found in your outfit and earrings.
Accessorize strapless and off-the-shoulder necklines with a necklace that remains close to the neck. Pair a faux gem choker on an invisible string with a top made of satin or silk. Add elegant sophistication with a short strand of pearls.

The daily grind: picking out accessories! There are a lot of ways to decide what to wear with your outfit. You can always use my patented (not really) Matching Method, or try a few of these:
Opt for color: One of the best ways is to choose colorful pieces. Colorful jewelry is wonderful for a modern wardrobe because contemporary clothing tends to be neutral. Your collection of black pants, grey sweaters and beige shirt dresses are easily enhanced with bright pink gemstone rings, blue glass drop earrings, purple beaded bracelets and oversized yellow pendants. Use fashionable jewelry to inject your daily look with bright colors & jewel tones.
Choose pieces with personality: The most fashionable outfits are those that match your personal tastes. Rather than selecting the most popular fashion jewelry, choose fashionable jewelry with unique and interesting details. If you love animals, wear owl necklaces, frog earrings and fox rings. If you like tribal styles, wear leather bracelets and gold stackable rings. Don’t hesitate to wear a unique combination of fashionable jewelry that portrays your individuality.
Get inspiration from another decade: Creating a great look with fashionable jewelry is often as easy as looking to the past. Fashion jewelry includes vintage-inspired pieces that can help you craft a 1960s style or a 1980s outfit. Elongated beaded necklaces go beautifully with long, colorful peasant skirts and smocked sundresses. Leather cuffs will accent your skinny jeans and high-top sneakers perfectly. An oversized gemstone cocktail ring is a fabulous addition to a tailored 1950s dress. Gemstones are not out of the question when shopping for fashion jewelry. Many semi precious gemstones are available in affordable jewelry collections. Look for stunning aquamarine, jade, turquoise, amethyst, marcasite, peridot, garnet and iolite tones when shopping for vintage-inspired fashion jewelry. Choose fashionable jewelry that will help you express your retro side.
